Create a look...
Headshot Styles
Typically vertical, although other orientations are used. Many times closer to the body. Other times wide or off to one side. Backgrounds vary but if shot indoors, a simple gray is classy and timeless.
Environmental/Outdoor Headshots are very popular. These are shot outside or with an outdoors backdrop and in natural light.
Clothing
Solid colors look great.
Keep any patterns simple.
Add or remove layers for a variety of looks.
Bring a few clothing changes.
No matter the season wear clothing that appears all-season.
Be sure clothes are wrinkle free. Photoshop editing to fix such things later is costly.
Don’t worry about shoes unless shooting full body shots.
Hair
Bring a favorite brush, hair product (gel/hairspray) to the shoot.
Book a hair stylist a day or two before the shoot.
Makeup and Face
Natural is a great option but light makeup typically works best.
Bring your makeup and moisturizer if necessary.
Brush your lips with a toothbrush to get rid of dead skin.
Don’t do anything prior to the shoot that could irritate your skin.
Get rid of unwanted hair before the shoot. Clean brows and upper lip hair.
Shave right before your shoot if that's your look. Create clean lines!
Don't wear sunglasses ahead of the shoot because marks from the glasses will be noticed on your nose.
“Do you have a look in mind for your headshot? Whether you prefer a trendy postcard look or you’re going for a more editorial style - there’s a way to capture it!”
