Getting Ready Tips

Create a look...

Headshot Styles

Typically vertical, although other orientations are used. Many times closer to the body. Other times wide or off to one side. Backgrounds vary but if shot indoors, a simple gray is classy and timeless.

Environmental/Outdoor Headshots are very popular. These are shot outside or with an outdoors backdrop and in natural light.

Clothing

  • Solid colors look great.

  • Keep any patterns simple.

  • Add or remove layers for a variety of looks.

  • Bring a few clothing changes.

  • No matter the season wear clothing that appears all-season.

  • Be sure clothes are wrinkle free. Photoshop editing to fix such things later is costly.

  • Don’t worry about shoes unless shooting full body shots.

Hair

  • Bring a favorite brush, hair product (gel/hairspray) to the shoot.

  • Book a hair stylist a day or two before the shoot.

Makeup and Face

  • Natural is a great option but light makeup typically works best.

  • Bring your makeup and moisturizer if necessary.

  • Brush your lips with a toothbrush to get rid of dead skin.

  • Don’t do anything prior to the shoot that could irritate your skin.

  • Get rid of unwanted hair before the shoot. Clean brows and upper lip hair.

  • Shave right before your shoot if that's your look. Create clean lines!

  • Don't wear sunglasses ahead of the shoot because marks from the glasses will be noticed on your nose.

“Do you have a look in mind for your headshot? Whether you prefer a trendy postcard look or you’re going for a more editorial style - there’s a way to capture it!”
